Our Philosophy of Engagement
Equipping Christians for the Public-square Centre is a Christian advocacy organization that believes that social conservative Christians need a national voice defending their right to exist, participate in and express themselves in the public square.
We are apologists for social conservative Christians.
An apologist is someone who defends the faith. The ECP Centre focus is to defend, advocate and equip Christians to vibrantly and unabashedly contributing to the public square.
What is a social conservative Christian? This is a Christian who believes that the public square cannot meaningfully exist without the infusion and organizational structure of Christian morality. He is someone who does not separate morality from social policies that influence and direct the economy, environment, education and justice. He is a Christian who believes that loving one's neighbour is best expressed in the contemporary application of the Ten Commandments in the public square.
What is the public square? It is our culture. It is the arena of public discourse, art, entertainment, business, philosophy, politics and yes, religion. It is all of these things combined as the montage of a nation's public identity.
The problem today is that the public square has become a hostile arena for social-conservative Christians because the public square has been co-opted by a militant Secularism.
What is Secularism? Western democracies, like Canada, are building their societies on the shifting sands of Secularism. Like a sandcastle formed by a child's bucket, every field of cultural endeavour from politics, justice and public education, to arts and entertainment have been increasingly forced to conform to the mould of Secularism – humanism.
What is secular humanism? Secularism's threat to our democracy consists partly in its fraudulent claim that it is somehow neutral and objective, that it is not a religion. However secular humanism is a religion, no less than Christianity, Judaism or Buddhism. Its ultimate god is man. (That is why it is called human-ism.) Its dogma is evolutionary egalitarianism which teaches that proportion and differentiation (between the Creator and creature, men and women, parents and children, humans and animals) is wrong and must be eliminated. Its temple is civil government. Pragmatic politicians, atheistic lawyers, and agnostic judges comprise the priesthood that is empowered to enforce evolutionary egalitarianism and sexual re-orientation philosophy onto Canadian society.
Secular humanism is an unstable foundation. Secularism is a serious problem. When Secularism comprises the foundation of a society, that society's stability is seriously threatened. Secularism, like sand, is an unstable foundation. And like sand, it is constantly changing. Secular boundaries and post-modern trends sweep in and out like the tide of the ocean. With every new tide the cultural erosion gets progressively worse.
A rock solid foundation Society needs to be rebuilt on a better foundation. We all recognize that the future is uncertain. 9/11 reminded us that we are all subject to crisis and social chaos, and the constant threat posed by ongoing terrorist activity is but another reminder of the uncertainty we all face. But there is a solution.
The ECP Centre is dedicated to helping raise the visibility of Christian participation in the public square. Christian involvement in the construction of a culture is the solution because the Christian world-and-life-view is rooted in the acceptance of ultimate reality.
That reality consists of the sacred. "We live and move and have our being in God's presence." Secularism seeks to eliminate our culture's acknowledgement of the Divine. Only Christianity, historically understood, recognizes that when there is no public acknowledgement of God there can be no public square.
The ECP Centre is comprised of Christians who believe that in-house, ivory-tower doctrinal debates are a luxury of a bygone era. Our culture is bent on a secular reorientation. Ultimately such a cultural paradigm shift will be destructive, to its own adherents, and to freedom-loving Christians.
That is why we must act... AND WE MUST GET INVOLVED NOW!
